SEO: Importance of Meta Tags

Meta tags are <meta...> tags in the HTML of your template which describe your site in HTML code. These codes are presented in HTML and it will not be appeared in the design of your blog. Put it simply, meta tags are embedded in HTML script of your blog. Thus, we human cannot view them unless we access to the HTML and look for the code. Unlike search engines, they can crawl through and get to know what your blog are by reading those meta tags (in 1990s).

Let me give you some examples:

<meta content='Blogging, SEO and Make Money Online' name='description'/>
<meta content='SEO, The World Avenue' name='keywords'/>
<meta content='Jin Sheng' name='author'/>

Why are meta tags important?

Sincerely, meta tags now are not as important as in 1990s. In 1990s, meta tags are used for search engines to understand what your blog is, what your site is, and indeed, it is a major key of success in SEO back to 20years ago. The search engines are getting sophisticated and meta tags are not that important like the past 20years. Search engines would not solely depend on meta tags now, though they are not able to read javascript, images, they read texts in your contents to know what your blogs are about instead of depending meta tags.

However, meta tags do still have some important job themselves in SEO. Although they are not as effective as in the past, you can place them in your HTML template, this will cause you no harm and also won't cost you a limb. Instead, they will help you in SEO! In the next post, I will guide you on how to add meta tag in your template (blogspot).
