After submitting links to the 3 main search engines, you can now submit your links to search directories. This step is optional, but if you are really aim for high ranking in a few days time, you should rather consider this. Of course, there are thousands of search directories out there, and it's impossible to submit your link to all of them. But, submission of your links to search directories may help promoting your site in certain search results.

Here's something you should remember before submitting your links to the directories.

1. Check whether it is a link farm or not. (You may compare differences between link farms and web directories)
2. Find web directories that have categories of links.

To search for link directories, you may go to Google, and make some searches for 'web directories' or 'submit URL'. It's quite simple and easy, that might take you about few minutes time and get lifetime traffic! If you still have not find one yet, go to my sidebar which column is labelled with 'Directories' and click on few links right there to submit your links.

There are no free meals on the Earth, even if do, it's rather depend on luck. That's true. If you want to submit your links to certain free web directories, then you need to pay for it in another way. Most of them may ask you to post a tracker code on your site, in an exchange of promoting your site. Well, that's the deal. You want free meal, you pay for it. =)

Recommendations

There are thousands of web directories, and of course, I couldn't introduce all of them to you. But, there is a great directory, which I found recently——dmoz.org. It's a huge directory with many thousands of links, and categorized neatly. You may submit your link to them, and get traffic!
