What are Backlinks?
Backlinks are incoming link that are directed towards your website or blog. It is also known as Inbound Link. It has its own status when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks directed to your site is the indication of your popularity or importance of your website in the search query for certain keywords. To stay top ranked in the search engine, however, we should have hundreds of quality backlinks rather than thousands of 'low-quality' backlinks.
What are quality backlinks?
Let's name google as the search engine. When google calculate the relevance of a site to a keyword, it usually consider the numbers of quality backlinks that directed to that site. Okay, make things simple and clear. When an inbound links directed to your site which come from the other site, and those sites have contents that relevant to yours, these backlinks are considered more relevant to your site. Thus, these relevant inbound links which comes from other site are considered as a quality backlinks. Shortly, the more the relevant the content of both, the higher the quality of inbound links.
Let me conclude this with an example.
If a website is more about dogs, then the backlinks which come from a dog-related website are considered higher quality than the backlinks from a kitten-website.
